Did he??? Shit, I thought that one was pure Ridsdale and probably cost shitloads to get some focus-group-happy bunch of design tossers to come up with.
Sonia Hennigan [aka Mrs Mad Dog] observed this herself [Wilko's attention to detail, that is], pointing out small but revealing and previously unknown details like the fact that Wilkinson apparently redesigned the badge the players wore on their blazers and had a substantial input into the rebuilding of the stadium and the giant East Stand Upper. An email to the Sarge confirms this: "The badge - I decided we needed a new one and redesigned it. The Euro shield was my design, inspired by Spanish and Italian club badges. The stadium was me on technical, Bill [Fotherby], the Chair [Silver] and Peter [Gilman] on detail and commerical."
I'd had no idea about any of this before.
"He was very talented - drawings and designs - but keeps quiet about it," explains Mrs Hennigan, intriguingly.
Mrs H goes on to say that:
"There's all these private things about him that people never knew. He'd visit poorly kids until they died, but nobody saw that."
- which I'm sure she didn't intend to sound quite so sinister.
