3-1, goals from Lees, Byram and White. All academy defenders!

Encouraging.
You know, I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with 'em later.

It is encouraging. But it would be good if our forwards scored.
With Peltier signed a back 4 of Peltier, Lees, Pearce, White makes me think that we already have a good mid-table squad. Now we just have to upgrade up front to move up.

Think we're probably OK up front tbh. Agree the defence looks pretty solid now, good back 4 and a solid keeper, certainly good enough for this league...
We just need a bit if creativity im M/F for me, somebody who can unlock a packed defence... Howson would be nice.
I was correct!

Hardest bit though bringing in the class. Shame we can't combine this back four with our old front four...

It's nice to imagine that our new back four must be better than the innumerable variations we've had over the past few years but I'm not sure that stands up to closer analysis. White and Lees are young lads who were part of a defence which conceded lots of goals last season. Peltier has been sold from an underachieving Leicester City side who only just finished above us. Pearce is young too and was relegated last year. Drury's main asset was pace but now he's much older. Kisnorbo and Bromby were always very inconsistent and usually injured.

I hope they are better but I think we should probably reserve judgement until we've seen them perform a few times against Championship opponents.

Or to put it another way...

Connelly is crap and Peltier is better. Lees has potential to be very good, especially paired with a better CB alongside. Pearce was Portsmouth's Player Of The Year and most commentators agree he was worth picking up by a better team. And Drury has played well for a team in a higher league and all the Norwich fan comments I read say we got a great player for our level. That back four is definitely better, provided they play as a unit, and the two guys in front of them do their jobs.

Warnock interview summary -

- Excellent today, Leeds stepped it up again.
- Difficult side to play against, good goals, pleased with the performance.
- In response to goals from academy defenders - "why needs forwards?"
- Warnock and Jepson were glad to have so many corners at both ends.
- Waiting for Peltier and Austin to come in before he starts tactics in training.
- Surprised we could afford Peltier, thought it would be much more.
- We need to relish the challenge of playing at Elland Road and in front of big crowds.
- Looking to bring in some forwards.
- Ideally wants two more players, a striker and a wide right player.
- Kisnorbo did well in training with Pearce so he put him in from the start.
- Crainie could still get a deal.
- Players going out this week, some more enquiries.
- Couldn't see O'Brien in his plans at Leeds.

Earlier in the commentary, Eddie Gray suggested that Luciano Becchio had fallen out with Simon Grayson but didn't expand on what he meant. Suggested that Becchio is not very enthusiastic in training, Warnock had to give him a bit of a bollocking to let him know who is boss etc.

Went to Preston today, I think we may have a new classic chant for this season, made me laugh....

Paddy Kenny's having a party, bring your vodka and your charlie

I only got "paddy Kenny... Party... Vodka... Charlie" so nice to get the rest filled in. Definitely sounded like this season's song.

I joined in this too and it felt right with the pre-season part atmosphere but I don't think we should trademark this for the season, I mean we are essentially albeit cheekily taking the piss out of our keeper (and captain?).

Sorry but I don't see what this will acheive except from opposition fans saying "do they realise he is their player now"?

Anyway, nice day out yesterday except for gettin caught in the rain when I left my ticket in the car and had to run all the way back to avoid missing KO. Preston started brightly but the game was so wide open they could have been one upand it could well have been 2-2 before half time but they were pretty shit and we looked lke, well, like a team that hasn't played much together yet.

Only solid performance except for Kenny for me was Pearce. I struggled to figure out who the others were and kept having to refer to squad numbers as I don't know what any of these new cunts look like.

Didn't see their goal as we kept having to move for all the pissed up chavvy fuckers. There was no shortage of people getting beers confiscated but fortunately the stewards did it all calmly and except for one chap who was determined to finish it before giving it him it was all steady. I heard there were a lot got kicked out at half time and there must have been som before kick off as on my way in there were Leeds fans asking where the nearest boozer was and outside there were a few individuals asking what the score were whilst hobbling around....

What was their goal like, anyone?

Nah, it's all in good humour and Kenny seemed to enjoy it.

Their goal was nicely taken, curled from the edge of the area. Agree re Pearce, thought Norris did ok in patches, didn't see a right lot to be enthused about from the front 3.

He does that on the training ground every week. I have high hopes for the lad.

Yeah got a ticket for this. Never been (unsurprisingly) to Burton. Trying to see the whites as much as possible seen as I won't go to Elland Road unless today actually is takeover day!

Going back to this, you found a way of getting to the ground yet? I know Burton as a town (A brewery essentially, surrounded by houses) but the ground's apparently a couple of miles out.
