Trialists, Transfers & Speculation

Postby jackos » Fri Apr 20, 2012 6:10 am

So Colin has fucked off ODear, 3 down, 10 or so more to go....

N he's staying put;

“@PhilHayYEP: Also in today's YEP, Warnock confirms that he will definitely be in charge of #lufc next season. He and Bates have "agreed I'll be here."”

Hopefully it means Colin has agreed a plan for next season with the old bastard. He's definitely sounded more positive this week.

Probably a combination of wage demands and disciplinary

Disciplinary would likely be the key one. Its clear that a partnership of Lees/O'Dea isn't good enough, but Lees has done well this season, has a longer term deal and will only get better. O'Dea has performed very well under Warnock, but has also missed 3 games through suspension.

If you accept that at least 1 of our first choice central defenders needs replacing, which one would you ditch? Then of course, there's the possibility that Warock would like to have Lees + new man, with O'Dea in reserve but Ken won't allow a new CB until we offload some, given that we also have Bromby, Kisnorbo and AOB under contract for next season.

I suppose it makes me a bit nervous when the worst don't go first. O'Dea wasn't great, but he was better than Bruce & Bromby.

Yeah, but he's on loan. Must be easier to fuck him off than contracted players.

Exactly. Under normal circumstances, you would greet the fucking off of a player who 'wasn't great' as good news, but I find it very hard to do that when there are worse players still at the club, and when there's no reason for you to trust that his eventual replacement will represent an improvement, or even exist.

I think warnock has high hopes for Lees, but to get the best out of him he needs an experienced partner, of the other three defenders you mention i think he will be interested to see what AOB is like, i have a sneaky feeling they would be a good partnership.

Kisnorbo-for me one of the poorest performers the body is not able anymore, be interesting to see what happens there
Bromby-I think he will stay as he knows warncok and has the utility factor

I suppose a lot will depend on the finances available, i personally see the right back position as a priority, left back not so much i still think white can blosoom if he stays of course, he has the attributes to be a modern full back just needs to improve positionally, i dont really rate robinson he seems to love flying in to tackles but doesnt really offer much else

There's two players in particular who have made it clear who would like to come. They are both exciting players and are the right age

The right age for what?? Retirement, what we can afford perhaps?

I am sure that Coventry will be wanting to offload players now, Gary McSheffrey would be available for a good price :joker2:

The same Gary McSheffrey who missed a pen the other night, effectively condemning his side to relegation? Couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke.

I haven't watched the highlights (yet), but from what I understand, McSheffrey didn't miss it, Maik Taylor saved it.

Taylor actually gave away the penalty but he saved it very well at his right post. He was Man of The Match, along with goalscorer Shane Lowry and Andy Keogh. A fine reunion of also-rans there.

Fair point. As a (very) amateur keeper myself you'd think I'd be all over the distinction between a 'missed' pen and a 'saved' pen :)

Pearce, Green and possibly Bamba are virtually done deals if you believe the Twittersphere. Would be content enough with those three to be honest. Especially replacing the players who have just gone out.

I've just been listening to that, sounds pretty fucking good.

On the basis of the name alone I'd welcome this bloke with open arms.
