This Chris Acton bloke has been on here a while now, can't say he's ever really stood out.

Interesting new direction, could be the making of a legend. :bomb:

After the riot after the Donny game which included 22 players and the same amount of police, I can't believe Warnock would sign the vile cunt seen as he was in the middle of it all. Didn't McCormack supposedly nut him as well?

We have enough problems at the club without Diouf turning up, therefore I believe this whole rumour to be bollocks.

I reckon the fact that Colin's got history and it would be such a 'big' story if it happened is the reason it's being picked up and talked about, rather than there being any truth in it.

i was listening to colin's shifting sands approach to this when asked if he was signing diouf directly this morning on talksport. i got the impression he's signing.

i also got the impresssion colin's a bit of a tedious cunt as his escape route was the same as when he was last asked an awkward question about leeds when i was listening - he pretended the phoine line was going dead. cute enough a joke first time round, but repeated sounded lame......

Pearce is good but I feel like he won't be our big defensive signing. He's a bit like an older Tom Lees, with a lot more to offer at fullback. He was Pompey's Captain and won just about every end of season award despite their relegation. On a free transfer, he's actually something of a steal.

Here's what Warnock said last night:

"I don`t want a defender who can be a good ball player; I want a defender who can do what he is good at."

From all accounts, Pearce is very much like this. Not a great footballer but a very good defender, whole-hearted, neck-on-the-line, no-nonsense, blood-on-yer-boots type. Named captain in his first season, aged 24. Got to have something about him.

This summer is, on minimal information so far, WAY better than last.
You know, I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with 'em later.

It is. I am actually quite hopeful (silly cunt I know) that we may have an encouraging summer with new players coming in.

It's the only thing I find encouraging about Colin being here - that as said before, he can apply more pressure on the board than SG and get this shit sorted in time (hopefully) for a decent pre-season. Is a sign of different intent, at least. But we'll have to reverse up in a meat-truck to get enough of the old stiffs out.

Although like most people I've certainly had enough of Colin spouting nostalgic bollocks every time he gets on the air or in print (which is all the time), ewhen he talks I can also sense that he really wants promotion. I think he wants it even more than the average Leeds United fan because he wants to say he got his eight promotions and bested every other manager in the league. He wants it so bad, he can't shut up about it for longer than a few minutes.

He obviously also hates any team he manages losing and takes it very personally, which is good because it's yet another incentive to bring in good players over the summer - that is assuming all of his public talk of the importance of a total overhaul has worked to the extent that Bates, Harvey & Williams can't help but to back him. Admittedly, that's a very large assumption but I think the fact that we've already brought in a decent player and trimmed out some of the deadwood (O'Dea, Varynen, Parker, Robinson and Bruce all gone, with more on the way on Wednesday) is a promising start.

is there any chance that the falling league position and attendances will finally get through to the truculent one? bearing in mind the precedent he's set i can't see it happening. i'm off to support wigan. :basket:

I wish he'd just shut the fuck up tbh. I've had enough of his platitudes and cliches already.
His record with us is fuckin dire, but really, really bad. I know it's not "his" team and all that jizz, but... he's a football manager not a PR wallah, and since he took over we have gone from a team with a faint chance of the P/O places, to easily the worst team in a pretty poor division. Right now, on his record over a third of a season, he is probably the worst manager we have ever had, and I include the Poison Dwarf in that list. That can change of course, I hope and trust trust that it will.
So shut the fuck up Colin and do yer job, eh? When you've won a dozen matches you can start mouthing off, when we're solidly in the top 6 you say what the fuck you want to whoever you want. Til then, shut the fuck up and concentrate on yer day job.

On the one hand, yes - almost within a week of him becoming Leeds manager I wanted to put an LUFC sock in his mouth. Then again, he's also a fairly shrewd and very experienced bloke. Two or three promotions could possibly be put down to good fortune or generous expenditure but he's had seven over the years. Thus, I've got to assume that there's something to him and I think that might be that in private, he genuinely puts quite a lot of thought into his off the field proclamations and image. I think you can see that in the way that he constantly, near obsessively talked about how the team needs a total overhaul - the upshot of which is that now Bates has to rubber stamp that or look like a cunt again, when he's as vulnerable as he's ever been (with declining attendance, appalling national PR and a dismal league finish).

Thus, every time he talks about the fans deserving better and the need for investment over the summer - I'm actually glad he's doing that. It shows a certain sense of nuance and tactical thinking, even if his motive is literally just to service his own ego. Like him or not (and I'll admit, I didn't and I don't), he's right about both of those things. I can't help but think that privately, he's a little bit pleased by how fucking awful we were towards the end of the season because it demonstrated that we really do need major surgery, not the latest in a long line of flimsy band-aids. So, regardless of whether he's a good manager or a likeable sort - I think he's doing the right thing at this moment in time. He's making the correct noises which will hopefully ensure some decent recruitment and a positive pre-season. Whether or not Bates allows him to build a capable squad or if said squad will play good football is another matter entirely but it's a tiny little step in the right direction regardless.

I think he will shut up and move on to other topics. I listened to extracts from last night with Eddie on YR, and I like the bloke. Spoke a lot of sense, he said, in response to being asked to put away fans back in wedge to improve the atmosphere, that he had addressed that already with Bates, no promise it will happen but it shows he is thinking about all aspects of the club. Reminded me of Wilkinson with his microphone trick in the stands, showing he knows how to make the most of what he has.
