Not really Leeds related, but there was a story in the Guardian today about Adelaide United offering a trial to a player who didn't actually exist. It reminded me of the Ernest Lund fiasco, if anyone remembers that?

There was a good article in When Saturday Comes about the Lund episode:

Green out for "a few weeks".
From O/S:

"Neil Warnock is waiting on confirmation of the extent of Paul Green's knee injury.
The former Derby man was replaced by El Hadji Diouf moments before half-time during Saturday's 1-0 win against Wolves and is now a doubt for the trip to Blackpool.
"I think he'll struggle," said the boss. "We don't know the extent of it and we're waiting for the results of the scan as we speak.
"I don't think it's going to be very good and we could be losing him for a few weeks if we're lucky.
"You can see it on the replay. It's not just his knee that gets caught, the player lands on it as well, so it is worse than what we thought at the time.
"He's done ever so well, but that's why you have a squad. We don't want too many injuries at once, and it will be better when it's one game a week."
The boss has reported no further injuries after the opening day success, but if he is without Green he will be forced into making one change to his starting line-up.
"We've got to look at each game as it comes and try and pick a team to get a result," he said. "That's what we'll be doing.
"We played one of the favourites on Saturday and I think we're playing one of the favourites on Tuesday because if I'm honest I thought they should have been promoted last season and were unlucky not to beat West Ham in the Play-Off final."

Byram signs 3 year contract

Refreshingly quick response by our standards, though I seem to remember the same thing happened with Lees last season

We're generally not bad at offering youth players contracts. The problem comes when they start to play a few games and it becomes clear they could be getting paid a lot more elsewhere.

Martin Crainie has signed for Barnsley.

One would assume this means that young Byram is our right-back now and Captain Peltier is going to be primarily a central defender. Feel sorry for Tom Lees, presumably he's going to have to get used to warming the bench until we get an injury. Good situation to be from everybody else's perspective though.

I don't expect Byram will be a regular in the starting line up.

You think Peltier will remain first-choice right-back, even though he's been made Captain and Byram has been given a new contract?

Personally I'd prefer Drury, Lees, Pearce, Peltier away from home but I suppose it takes a squad.

Very unlikely, Byram will mainly used as back up his performances have given warnock another option at right back so the need for a back up to Peltier can be put behind a striker and a winger if it wasn't already.

This idea of changing defenders home and away doesn't sit well with me, I always prefer to see the same back four to build partnerships.

Agreed. Lees will come in when he's properly fit, Pelters to RB. Drury will come in soon too, as White may move forward.

That could happen tonight with Green out. Drury in at LB, Lees and Pelts in their proper positions and White in place of Green on the right. I doubt Colin will want to expose Byram to a rampant Blackpool side so I reckon he'll be on the bench.

byram's wiki and soccerbase page has him down as a right back/right winger, so i wouldn't be surprised to see him getting the odd appearance in midfield, especially as we don't have a specialist right winger type anymore.

peltier will be first choice right back tonight, i reckon, allowing a lees/pearce partnership in the centre.

Aye, Colin shoved him to right midfielder when he brought Lees on at 80mins against Wolves. Have to say he looked fucking awful, but could be because he was completely knackered. He'd already had treatment for cramp by then.

Warnock mentioned in his interview he was thinking at putting Byram forward when green went off, so it may be an option tonight.

The injury to Green has given Diouf a strong card hasn't it? Bet his agent added a few grand to his wage demands on Monday morning. Strange game football.

Possibly, though its not like he has loads of offers as far as we know. So i would guess he is just looking to get sorted, rather than asking for a pay rise.

Maybe Pughers will also get closer to the first team as a result?
