Bumnote, 01/02 is better and has a September 2010 update

I blame CM93 for all my failures in life. So many hours as a 9 year old spent gawping at monitor trying to get shot of that shit midfielder 'Lucas Adebe'.

For some reason the thing I remember most about that game is typing in the scores from the instruction manual just to load it up

I'm doing exactly this, and I can now run it at a sensible speed with all leagues on! Don't know why I bothered as I'll never manage outside of england, but its somehow comforting to know I can.

I also did a bit of pre-game database tweaking as I felt it needed to recognise Becchio's heading ability, gradel's workrate and determination, snodgrass needed more potential, and Somma needed to be of some use. Maybe I took it slightly too far.

I'm using the takeshi patch or whatever its called instead of the straight update, I'm hoping they've managed to make the transfer window slam shut at the of august but I expect that might be asking for a bit too much. Shame they've not done this with 02/03 as I'm already missing the ability to praise players after good performances and the media response angle.

True to form so far, my 4 league games have finished 4-2, 2-3, 1-3, 2-0.

That's how I did it too, works fine.

I minor issue worth putting up with to avoid losing my life to trying to get by with the more recent versions. Problem with increased realism is the increased time drain and lower enjoyment if you don't have time to set up training, watch the oposition, make subtle tactical changed week by week...etc

Sooo much better just setting up my formation and using it week in week out aside from the occassional change when things aren't working mid match.

Well its not going so well. I'm about 20 games in, inside the top 6 and unbeaten in the last 11 (7 draws), but 3 of my players are unhappy that I'm not top, another handful think I can turn it round, my job is very insecure and every time I fail to win the supporters demonstrate against me. All this with a board expectation of a respectable league position - clearly 1st is the only the respectable position!

The old cunt sacked me for being 7th in November.

Playing Footy Manager 2010 on the PSP. 1st season with York (BSP) won the League, the FA Cup & the FA Vase. 2nd season won Charity Shield and on course for the League, FA Cup, League Cup & UEFA Cup.

It's a really lite version on the full PC game and can play a few games back to back whist the missus is watchin Enders, without worrying about the training, oppo tactics etc. which Phil mentions above.

That sounds a bit unbelieveably easy though! Need to find the balance as there's no fun in winning many games you really shouldn't be in any footy game - the odd upset is obviously fine, but winning the FA cup with York? I don't think I'd have started the 2nd season.

the team and settling in now to the 0-5-5 formation...

last 3 results

Qpr 1 - 2 Leeds
Leeds 4 -2 Villa
Leeds 4 - 1 Arsenal

Crowds are pretty poor though only 24000 for the gooners game and batty got sent off, Rocastle was man of the match. Recent signings Lee Glover from Forest is out with a broken jaw sustained in training!!!! my guess is batty twatted him. Also signed John Hendry from SPURTS.

I will confess to giving the updated CM0102 a quick whirl. It seemed to have lost a little of its charm somehow… more likely it’s me that’s changed rather than the game. I missed the ability to be able to dip into the Swedish under-21 team [down, danny] & pick up loads of great players on the cheap..

I did OK with Leeds. Slightly implausibly managed to sign that guy Tiote from Newcastle as a defensive midfielder. Had some joy playing a 4-2-3-1 with Grella as lone striker, a narrowish midfield of BJ, LJW and Kilkenny breaking forwards, and Tiote & Faye protecting the back four.

Not sure I’ll have the patience to get as far as Christmas with it. Think I got to a decent playoff spot in late autumn.

The final straw was Gary McSheffrey 'notching a brace' against me for Coventry. A slim consolation was that the lads managed to keep Doyler quiet in the same game.

As this is rapidly turning into an all out geek-fest, I'll give you an update on my only ever game of FM 11 so far.

Decided to start right at the bottom, so took on Harrogate Town in the Blue Square North. 4 years later I was in League One (all funded by a ludicrously lucky FA Cup run in the first season when I got about a million quid from a game with Liverpool and the sale of a really quite shit striker for 600k to Newcastle) and was offered the Sheff Wednesday job in the Championship. I kept them up in the first season and was in the play-offs when Grayson was sacked at Leeds. He'd taken them to the Prem and back, but they were near the bottom of the championship with about 10 games to go. Quite easily avoided relegation then entirely changed to squad over summer before romping promotion. Got Beckford on loan from Everton who bagged 30+ as a lone striker, with on loan Fab Delph chipping in with 15+ from midfield. 4 years later and I've just won the league having picked up a couple of FA Cups along the way.

Unfortunately it's now reached the slightly unsatisfying stage where most of the star players are not real. The only known players in and around my first team are Delph, Wilson (young CB from Liverpool), Vela and Formica.

I dread to think how many hours of my life I've wasted on CM/FM over the past 15 years.

Well, ken sacked me 3 times last night!

my 16 match unbeaten run ended at home to forest and I got the dreaded vote of confidence, so hurridly saved as I knew the sack wasn't far off. I then drew away to boro and away to pompey, the axe fell.

Reloaded, lost to boro, the axe fell.

Reloaded, drew with boro, the axe fell.

reloaded, drew with boro, drew with pompey, got a chance to respond to the angry mob and my answer persuaded ken to keep me on this tim, despite being worse off than my 1st run at drawing those games. Changed formation and have gone on a run since, now I'm top, 4 points clear with 2 games in hand and the league cup final.

Ken has told me not to worry about the angry mob, he's satisifed... for now.

I does doesn't it. When your team contains such names as Casillas, Maicon, Lahm, Woodgate(!), Messi, Fabregas, Lampard, Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Torres & Hulk (watch out for him in the real Prem soon) it's not that hard to demolish the bottom divisions.

L'arse beat me in the League Cup Final last night so sacked it off without saving

But, I played a version where I took Scum to the wall, and when I eventually got sacked after fielding 11 goalkeepers (Giggs in goal) and losing every game for 3 months, the new virtual manager ended up winning like crazy and lifting them into the UEFA places, with the same squad I left behind. It seems that no matter who is in your team, the database is already pre loaded with which teams will win or lose, regardless, unless you're hands on with management. For instance, I took a holiday to sign Messi and my assistant took charge against Stockport and we lost!

Fuckin' love Footy Manager games
