The official occasional SCAPEGOAT thread

Postby Oheddieeddie » Sun Jul 31, 2011 10:21 pm

Well so far we seem to have decided quite unreasonably that Clayton and Parker will be our official scapegoats. You know how it works fellahs after each match feel free to post the names of those who let us down. Clayton seems to be getting the most amount of unfounded stick so far, and as he is he Kilkenny replacement (the old No1 scapegoat) thats as it should be.

Please dont involve Paynter in this thread though as he's genuinely shite as opposed to being unfairly criticised...

So Clayton, anyone else?

Clayton does look positively ordinary thus far though. I'd love him to suddenly come good but even better would be to just replace him with somebody a lot better in the next week. I assume that'll happen so he'll be back in the reserves before long. Still, I'd imagine he'll get much more game time this season.

Paynter might be shite but he'll score a few this season if he plays. Chances are eventually he'll be in the right place now and then, just as we saw today. With players like Gradel, Snodgrass, McCormack, Howson, Nunez, Sam, Mendy etc supplying balls into the box throughout a game, I'd probably score on occasion too.

Well if pushed I would say Lonergan is my scapegoat, for some reason Ive taken an instant dislike to the lad (Probably more to do with the amateur way we handled Kasper) Im pretty sure he has no idea how to organise a defence and think he should have done better with t'goals today and the shocker against Bradford PA. Maybe thats harsh but thats the point of a scapegoat.

As for Billy I see him as a tragic figure destined never to reach the heady rarefied atmosphere of stellar performers like a Peter Swan or a Bob Taylor in the white shirt, destined to trudge aimlessly around the pitch and hope the ball hits his static and considerable frame like today and somehow goes in. I wouldnt say he's beneath contempt, but thats mainly because nobody can find where he is: above below whatever. Yes Billy is a bit like a WWII submarine waiting out the war in the murky depths as far from the action as can be, hoping nobody spots him rusting away. When I was a little un and it got close to bedtime I can remember always trying to be as still & quiet as possible and hoping that by not drawing attention to myself that I wouldnt be noticed and therefore not sent away from the action. Im amazed that Billy has employed this same unsuccessful trick in regard to his football career.

Lonergan is a worry for sure. I mean he's coming off the back of his worst season, his kid is sick and he's going to have this enormous weight of expectation dropped on him now. I hope he does well but I'm not sure people will be prepared to be patient with him. It could be his nerve ends up going early on in the manner of Bessone and we end up with Rachubka and Cairns instead.

From last season Andy O'Brien got alot of stick from me for the occasional stupid bit of defending he seemed do a couple of times a game.

But it's a new season so I will start afresh and wait to see what Saturday brings.

When we have nailed our scapegoat, we should sacrifice him here.

Wasn't sure which thread to put this on :elephant:

Howson, when we lose it'll be because he'd gone missing meaning we basically had to cope with 10 men

Is this based on prior observation of our myopic keeper?
