The Woman in Black

Harry Potters first outing since leaving hogwarts and a fairly decent one it is too. Very dark and atmospheric, a twist at the end that as I hadnt read the book or seen the play I didnt expect and overall a decent watch. As a horror film measurement it actually made me jump several times (at least I avoided screaming as some teenage girls managed to do  ) with good cuts to unexpected faces.

Definitely worth going to see IMO.

Red Riding Hood

Thought it was pretty shit myself, small village haunted by a werewolf, descends into guessing which of the townfolk is the wolf but didn't inspire me to actually care who it was. Gary Oldman is the film's high point really.

5/10

The Lincoln Lawyer

Cocky hot shot lawyer takes on rape/assault case of seemingly innocent millionaire. Soon dawns on him that said client is anything but innocent and is very bad man.

Really enjoyable film, recommended. 7/10

Yes. Typical statham but less action to make it more believable as he's playing a london cop. Alright but nothing special.

Had to go and see the romantic drama the vow last night as it was my wife's turn to choose the film and I was dreading it. To be fair I don't mind a romantic comedy if it makes me laugh occasionally but a drama. not my thing. Having said that it was no where near as bad as I had feared, they didn't put to much schmaltz in it and it was funnier (darkly so at times) than I had anticipated. Not something I would go out of my way to see but if you have to take the better half to a romantic film this one wouldn't be a bad choice IMO.

Based on a true story apparently, a story that is pretty moving oddly enough.

Moneyball (with Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill) 8/10
A sports story. The low-budget teams against the big money teams. Going against the established order. A true story.
It is much better than I expected (but one of those that viewers and critics both like). You don't have to like baseball (and I don't, although prefer it to basketball) or understand it to get the story.
More than 2 hours, and while it is not fast-paced the only piece that coud have been cut was the early/repeated scenes of resistance to new ideas.

One for those of you who like sports, and David vs Goliath -like stories.

Just watched 'Drive' with Ryan Gosling in it. Utter shit. If you like watching Ryan Gosling be silent, you're in for a treat.

 Its been known to happen, but I really did enjoy the film. A little too graphic in places, wasn't really called for; the main character was definitely the silent type but its good to see something a little different, would have been too easy for them to go down the transporter route with typical holywood unrealistic car chases and fight scenes. Well worth a watch in my opinion.

I enjoyed it, but then again I don't mind baseball, it's the only yank sport I can watch.
Pitt is very good, nice simple story, not too long, 7.5/10

Watched that last week, pretty good overall. :thumbl:

Very mediocre weekend on the movie front

Green Hornet

Had it on my planner for weeks and was quite looking forward to seeing it. Got about an hour in, nothing had happened, gave up. Not funny, no action, boring charators, shit villain. Not worth bothering with. 3/10

Faster

We were looking for something mindless to watch on late Sunday afternoon and this fit the bill. The Rock is released from jail and sets about taking out all those that helped put him there. Lots of blood and car chases as you'd expect from that kind of film, but don't expect to be challenged intellectually. 5/10

The Descendants.
The trials and heartaches of the super rich in paradise.
Decent performance from Clooney, good performance from his teenage daughter and a very good one from her fuckwit cardboard cutout boyfriend. Some nice guitar. Lots of nice scenery.
Utterly bloody pointless film. Nothing really happens, nobody says anything of note, there is no plot to speak of. Can't understand why they bothered. I suppose they thought it was a hard-hitting portrayal of a man coming to terms with his wife's death* and reconnecting with his family, a searing psychological tour de force. It ain't. Might have been a decent film if it hadn't had a severe saccharine overdose.
Note: *this isn't a spoiler, we know his wife is dying from the start, so don't get arsey.
Definitely one for the missus. Shame really because Alex Payne's last few films have been pretty good.
2/10.
