Just seen that seminal 80's band, (OK so I exaggerated!) 'Then Jerico' have reformed and will be touring in Sept. They will be performing 'The Big Area' album in full. Oh yes, oh fucking yes!!! Ha Ha seriously I loved them when I was 18 ish

I may have to buy a ticket for this its cheesy I know, but such a guilty pleasure. :dj:

Have to say that I respect your championing of obscure 80s pop schluck, sir :salute:

Where do you stand on The Associates and The Blue Nile?

I saw that Bow Wow Wow are touring the UK shortly. Loved that band but, I dunno, it's only Annabella and the bass player Lee who are original members, and I can never quite bring myself to go and see reformed bands. It just ruins the memory of what once was.

The Blue Nile, were quality, Tinseltown in the Rain & Stay were quality songs that I recall although I never bought any albums, and to my ear at least they still sound relevant today, there seems to be a few bands around now who are far less accomplished musicians but are trying for a similar sound to these near 30 year old tracks.

I never really discovered The Associates apart from "Party Fears Two" which I loved, so Im not sure why, but I seem to remember a girlfriend I had then had Associates posters on her wall and that in itself may have been enough for me to suddenly find them terminally :thumbl: uncool.

I absolutely loved the other Scottish bands around then Del Amitri being my favourite with Aztec Camera and Big Country not far behind as previously discussed/admitted. There were lots of others that I really liked at the time from North of the border, early Simple Minds stuff was quality for me, but I wasnt averse to a spot of early Deacon Blue (as I thought Raintown was a classic at that time) or the first few Lloyd Cole & Commotions efforts. Hue and Cry were pretty good too if you could ignore the smug way they came across in interviews.

Thinking about it most of the bands I was into back then had a Celtic thing going on .. The Alarm, Hothouse Flowers and of course we all felt like we discovered U2 before they were massive around the time of "War" and on through "The Unforgettable Fire" before they ate themselves.

Erm I could go on ... :dj:

I'm writing live from Howard Jones playing 02 in Sheffield at the moment, and you can't get much more pumping with action than this as Mikey Poundcamp might say!!

Go on Howard son, tinkle those Rolands !!

Go on then, who saw the Stone Roses at the weekend?
I was there on't Saturday, it was utterly astonishing. I was expecting 4 old geezers struggling to bring out the hits, but the way they played was just jaw-dropping; keeping it tight, jamming out huge endings to songs, it was proper next-level stuff. I hope to fuck someone bootlegged it.

i've heard mixed reports of this - some saying it was fantastic and others saying it was badlly organised with too many there for the facilities and the sound got lost in the wind.

i hate big gigs so steered clear happy to wallow in my memories of seeing them at the poly in '89 when they were mind blowing and later at the coliseum where they were mind numbing.

....but i did go to see cud at the cockpit the weekend before. that was fun :thumbl:

Well yeah, I share your misgivings about big gigs, and there's always issues like that isn't there? Queuing for ages for the lavs, £4 a pint beer, getting on and off the site, etc. The sound was getting blown about at points but fucking hell, you've got to go into a bash like this expecting that haven't you? And the gig itself was amazing.

went on Friday and loved it. when it comes to vocals, Brown is no Nigel Blackwell but he's still got the swagger. Squire was right out of the top drawer, Remi played like he'd been waiting for the moment forever and the bass lines from Mani took it right back to first hearing it when I was a teen and thinking "wow, what the fuck was that....!" It really made the hairs stand up when they kicked into 'I wanna be Adored', the crowd loved 'This is the One' and 'Resurrection' was a fabulous way to end. Yeah, there were too many there and you couldn't get a pint and it was just like being at a festival but who cares? Everybody loved it, there were free hugs galore from strangers and not an ounce of menace in the air despite the fact that the audience was 90% male and over 40! As Mani said when leaving the stage..."not bad for a set of old cunts....."

Saw HMHB in Leeds a few weeks back - very enjoyable, although they didn't play as many of my favourites as they did at Wolverhampton in January.

I have tickets to see Motorhead and Anthrax three times in their tour later this year, Leicester, Wolverhampton and Cambridge  3 times in 8 days, fantastic! Also going to see WASP at Norwich at a venue that I think only holds 600 should be another great night.
Fuck off to the football league

Saw Elvis Costello recently on the 'wheel of fortune' tour - man's a genius, over 3 hour set and I could have listened to another hour at least. Totally superb sound, Steve Nieve on keyboards as good as ever and I'd sort of forgotten that Costello is such a good guitar player.
Played a blinding version of Tramp The Dirt Down which went down a storm.

Never had a chance to see The Attractions, can never internally justify the considerable cost of seeing The Imposters.

Huge fan of Steve Nieve and Pete Thomas though. Both of them superb musicians.
