O/T Andy Caroll - Select him for the next international?

Postby Sanchez Watt's Sticky Dribble » Thu Nov 11, 2010 1:26 pm

The world and his grannie say yes. But would it be wise? That is the question.

Just based on current form and potential the answer would be an unequivocal YES. But being the great thinker that I am, I see a problem with doing so. We all know about his undisciplined off field problems and the message it would send if he were "rewarded" and yes you could point the finger at other players and their misdemeanors in order to claim it doesn't matter what he gets up to off the field - only on it. But we've all seen in the past young players after having a good spell being touted for an England call up, getting one, and then going completely off the boil. It's as if it goes to their heads in some way.

Harold Wilson famously said a week is a long time in politics. It's a fucking long time in football as well. One week a player is the best thing since the flushing toilet, the next they want to flush him down the toilet. We all know what Caroll brings to a team but wouldn't it be best to let him bed into the Premier League first and see how things are in the new year. If he gets through the Christmas drinking season without glassing someone in a pub, beating some chav up in the street or charged with rape - and he's still playing well - then give the lad a go. See the bigger picture.

What say you?

IMO, he's a better option than Emile Heskey (although he's retired apparently  soft twat) and Kevin Davies.
Pick him, let the geordies all have their wank fest and then put him on the scrap heap when he's not scored for 5 games.

I like him, he's incredibly aggressive and brave, plus he's a half decent finisher. Proper English striker.

Fuck the off field bollocks, give him a try.

i don't mind him as an england player... we'd be in a tight spot if he was one of the first names on the teamsheet but as a squad player he seems a decent option.

the off the field stuff is fairly immaterial IMO.

Definatley play him 7 pl goals in 12 games is worthy of a cap or 3.... we have fuck all other options at the moment!!!

Although now Beckford is banging (ahem) em in for Everton, surely hes worthy of an England cap... lest we forget Michael Ricketts played for England!!!!!!

Beckford just needs a few more goals and the cry will no doubt go up.

As long as you're not doing porridge, you should be eligible for selection as far as I'm concerned.

The fact that Caroll is being considered for England is a poor reflection on the state of english strikers at the moment.

I am not saying he's a bad player but for fucks sake its a disgrace that there ain't many better.

Meh. I dunno. Miroslav Klose's bloody shite but he holds a World Cup goalscoring record now.

I thought Barton (surprising I know) summed it up well....

Newcastle team-mate Joey Barton has urged Capello to judge Carroll on his form, saying: "Sometimes you need the players who don't always toe the line.

"Hopefully they will stop worrying about Goody Two Shoes image which the sponsors want for England.

"They need to start picking players to win matches. The frustrating thing for me is that England pick the good guys for the World Cup because they won't cause any problems, but every other national team picks the players who are simply the best in their position.

"I'm not telling Fabio Capello how to do his job, but for me it is a no-brainer to have Andy Carroll in his squad because he has everything to be the archetypal English centre-forward."

He's spot on, too many little fag boys like Walcott sucking Capello's dick, rather have some cunts in there that will play for the shirt.

Well he's scoring goals in a mediocre team and looks (playing wise) much better than some of the dross that have been capped. Everyone moans that we stick by the tried & (un)trusted usual faces, give the lad a go - and not just 10 mins at the end.
I don't like his hair though.

The fact we're creaming ourselves over the new Mark Hately speaks volumes about the state of the English game. The PL must die.
