Ireland, Norway, South Africa, Switzerland, Poland, Brazil, even North Macedonia — Leeds United fans have little trouble finding cult heroes from across the globe, adopting them into our mad world like a long-lost family member. Often those players arrive in Leeds without any designs on becoming as adored as they end up, but they quickly realise there’s very little choice involved on their part. Once you’re in, you’re in, and it’s very hard to turn the majority against you once they’ve decided you’re one of the team.

Every now and again, however, a player slips through the cracks. What began as a burgeoning romance can, every so often, become a bitter, broken coupling, filled with criticism and resentment on either side.
